Police, Addiction, Violence, and the Need for Circles of Hope

Why Recovery Requires More Than Punishment “Wives ,sisters and mothers do not always seek punishment; often, they seek treatment because they fear losing someone they love to addiction.” The recent remarks by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, where he shared that families had asked authorities to arrest their own children to save them from drugs, reveal the depth of helplessness many families are experiencing today. Indian Express Report At first glance, such statements may appear harsh. But beneath them lies a painful reality: many families are not demanding punishment — they are desperately searching for intervention before addiction destroys another life. Addiction Is Not Only a Law-and-Order Issue Over the years, while working in addiction recovery, behavioral health, and rehabilitation settings, one observation repeatedly emerges: Addiction rarely affects only the individual. It affects: families, relationships, neighborhoods,...

Navjyoti’s Legacy & Nada India’s Mission: Strengthening Peer-Led Solutions for Public Health

Reflecting on Navjyoti’ s impactful journey and the legacy of its UNODC project, I’m inspired by how it brought together experts and communities to create transformative change. Yesterday, with Anuj and over 120 participants, I revisited these milestones, realizing their relevance today—especially as Nada India continues this mission, addressing how #TB and #NCDs disproportionately impact drug users. I’d love to hear your thoughts on how peer-led initiatives like these can be a learning opportunity for psychiatric social workers and public health professionals. Let’s also shine a light on the vital role of peer counselors in bridging service gaps and creating sustainable solutions. Your insights mean a lot to me. Join the conversation! Let’s explore how these stories can inform and inspire our collective work for healthier communities.  vsuneel@gmail.com

"Peer-Led Drug De-Addiction Initiatives in India: An Empowering Journey for an Identity" by Alexander Hitch, Volunteer Nada India

A report prepared with the support of Mr. Suneel Vatsyayan, Chairman Nada India Foundation  Chicago, Illinois April 18, 2014       I was first introduced to the therapeutic community modality supported by the Nada India Foundation in the late summer of 2011. During that summer I had been living and working in Delhi as an interim teacher at a local school. My host family, who were wonderfully welcoming and generous, introduced me to local leaders in the community development world, which eventually led to a meeting with Suneel Vatsyayan.       Needless to say, from my first interaction with Mr. Vatsyayan and the Nada India Foundation, I was greatly impressed with its scope of services, and admired the commitment to its mission. Through our first discussions, Mr. Vatsyayan and I both realized our ability to tackle a common goal. I had been trained as an historian in graduate school, and he was hoping to...

The Recovery Center Foundation Philippine is a T.C. which uses NADA acupuncture.

Friends, When Janet (NADA Philippine)  first finished her NADA training in 2004,  she contacted most therapeutic communities and drug treatment programs in the Philippine.  None were even curious for a demonstration of acupuncture for addiction.  Later she and her NADA colleagues gave large demonstrations at several important addiction treatment programs.  None asked for more services.  The word was they were all encouraging the use of psycho-pharmeceutical drugs.  One speaker at an annual NADA conference claimed that research shows that depression is more common in the Philippines than any other country.  In the world.  To  anyone who is familiar with the usual smiling Filipino countenance, this ‘research’ claim is ludicrous.  However, there is a high rate of psycho-pharm usage by the complacent population. The Recovery Center Foundation is a therapeutic community which uses NADA acupuncture.   It is a very ...

It relieves my stress and makes my mind alert. How often do we hear people say this when asked to quit smoking or any other addictive habit? For a few, what started off casually as a stress buster grips them so gradually that they don’t realise they are getting addicted. Many people desperately wish to release themselves from a toxic practice, whether it is alcoholism, drug abuse, sexual addiction, negative thinking, insomnia or depression. To address multiple issues on how to overcome numerous toxic habits, the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) protocol in association with 7-Radiations-SATCH (Sanctum of Alternate Therapies and Conscious Healing)...
