Rajiv Jain,ex-alcoholic, seeking directions to lay down a "coherent policy for de-addiction centres

The  Delhi  High  Court  today agreed to hear a plea seeking montoring and regulation of drug and alcoholic de-addiction and rehabilitation centres.  A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice R S Endlaw while agreeing to hear the PIL also said it would appoint an amicus curie to asisst it. "The issues raised in the petition require judicial examination," it said. The court was hearing a PIL filed by Rajiv Boolchand Jain, who himself claims to be an ex-alcoholic, seeking directions to lay down a "coherent policy and procedures" for the drug and alcoholic de-addiction and rehabilitation centres so that they are easily accessible to patients suffering from chronic addictions to narcotic substances and alcohol. In his petition, he prayed that central government should immediately stop all grants under "Central Sector Scheme of Assistance for Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance (Drug) Abuse" as the NGOs are "misusing" these grant

Prevention of Narcotic Drug problems means empowering children

It All Starts With Drug-Free Childhood Prevention of Narcotic Drug problems means empowering children and giving them a fair chance of living the lives they dream of   On  World Drug Day , IOGT International stands with UNODC and its World Drug Campaign. “World Drug Day is a unique occasion to take a stand – together – against a problem that affects everyone. Illicit drugs threaten the health and welfare of people worldwide,” says Mr. Esbjörn Hörnberg, Executive Director of  IOGT International , the largest global non-governmental organization with members promoting a lifestyle free from alcohol and other drugs. Up to 200,000 people die every year  due to Narcotic drugs. Narcotic drugs do not just affect the user. They cause tremendous hardship and misery to children, families, communities and societies. Narcotic drugs undermine close relationships, and can ruin education and employment opportunities. Narcotic drug use and trafficking are not only a burden on public health, bu

"Peer-Led Drug De-Addiction Initiatives in India: An Empowering Journey for an Identity" by Alexander Hitch, Volunteer Nada India

A report prepared with the support of Mr. Suneel Vatsyayan, Chairman Nada India Foundation  Chicago, Illinois April 18, 2014       I was first introduced to the therapeutic community modality supported by the Nada India Foundation in the late summer of 2011. During that summer I had been living and working in Delhi as an interim teacher at a local school. My host family, who were wonderfully welcoming and generous, introduced me to local leaders in the community development world, which eventually led to a meeting with Suneel Vatsyayan.       Needless to say, from my first interaction with Mr. Vatsyayan and the Nada India Foundation, I was greatly impressed with its scope of services, and admired the commitment to its mission. Through our first discussions, Mr. Vatsyayan and I both realized our ability to tackle a common goal. I had been trained as an historian in graduate school, and he was hoping to share the story of the peer-led treatment m

Media 'unfairly stigmatises mental illness'--

Media 'unfairly stigmatizes mental illness'-- One in four people will at some time in their lives experience some form of mental illness.  Less than 5% of homicides are committed by people with mental illness. I don't think the newspapers/media realise how many of their readers are affected by mental illness, or indeed how many of their readers they are potentially offending."  The reporting of mental health issues would soon be treated as sensitively. If this is acceptable for all us ,Send such type of messages to All media people. Recognize and treat mental illness early and improve quality of human life.Dont stigmatize mental illness. Dr. N. Mobilizing communities by Recovering peer educators for drug prevention

Mobilising communities with the help of recovering peer educators and women for drug abuse prevention….. case study by Suneel vatsyayan presented at UNODC function in Delhi 23 rd  June 1997 It is interesting that theme for that year`s  International Day against Drug abuse and Illicit Trafficking ,that is 26 th of June, 1997 is community mobilization for drug prevention ,at time Navjyoti Delhi Police Foundation when Navjyoti was involved in major community mobilization programmes. In this context, what happened on 21 st march ,97 at village Bakkerwla in west Delhi ,is significant. Two recovering addicts from this village Dayanand and Karamveer ,celebrated their recovering birthdays at a public function ,under auspices of Navjyoti gratitude club  .the gratitude club was started by recovering addicts of Navjyoti Delhi Police Foundation. It is their own efforts after having been freed  from deadly clutches of drug addiction, these courageous feel solemn responsibility which they hav

The Recovery Center Foundation Philippine is a T.C. which uses NADA acupuncture.

Friends, When Janet (NADA Philippine)  first finished her NADA training in 2004,  she contacted most therapeutic communities and drug treatment programs in the Philippine.  None were even curious for a demonstration of acupuncture for addiction.  Later she and her NADA colleagues gave large demonstrations at several important addiction treatment programs.  None asked for more services.  The word was they were all encouraging the use of psycho-pharmeceutical drugs.  One speaker at an annual NADA conference claimed that research shows that depression is more common in the Philippines than any other country.  In the world.  To  anyone who is familiar with the usual smiling Filipino countenance, this ‘research’ claim is ludicrous.  However, there is a high rate of psycho-pharm usage by the complacent population. The Recovery Center Foundation is a therapeutic community which uses NADA acupuncture.   It is a very creative and inexpensive program.  Most programs receive requests fro
